Founded in 1996 whilst students at the Ferenc Liszt Academy
of Music in Budapest, the Ewald are all well-known as soloists and
hold principal positions in Hungary's major orchestras. The group
came to international prominence in 1998 by winning the coveted
1st prize at the International Brass Quintet Competition in Narbonne
France, following this by the 1st prize in 2000, at the Korean Int.
Brass Quintet Competition in Cheju. Their aim as an ensemble is
to broaden the appeal and understanding of the brass music culture
both past and present. Their broad repertoire includes music from
the Renaissance through the classics to many works by contemporary
Hungarian composers which have been written especially for them. |
